Astin Family Cemetery
There are six graves on the site: two box slab tombs and four head & foot stones inside of a brick rectangular border. There is also a small circular border of rocks near the box tombs, but no other evidence of rock markers. The Astin tombstones are all inscribed with two initials, the last
name, and the dob and dod. There are several references to the name
Astin in the book “Palmetto: A Town and Its People”; however, none of
the initials or dates match. The two box tombs are of the Dean Family. They do not have a dob or dod but are inscribed as follows:
There was no reference to the Dean Family in the Palmetto book or on the Internet. The property owner was aware of the cemetery and said that before he
had the land, it was referred to as the Old Astin place, but he did not
know the history of the cemetery. |
